Awhile back, the Spanish Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and his family visited the United States. Of course, Obama being the Camera whore that he is made every effort to be in as many pictures with the visiting family as possible. This newly found friendship, however, may be cut short as the photo shoots resulted in the unwanted publiching of pictures of the Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's Daughters Laura and Alba Zapatero. The Spanish Media, banned by law from publishing pictures of Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's Daughters Laura and Alba Zapatero, are in a frenzy as two right wing papers ran with the Whitehouse published photo's of Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's Daughters Laura and Alba Zapatero. I can see the headlines now "Fotos de Laura y Alba Zapatero" "Luis Rodríguez Zapatero hijas fotos" "fotos prohibidas de Laura y Alba Zapatero."At the end of the day, in an attempt to keep from eating a handful of sand, the US State Department agreed to remove the Banned pictures of Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's Daughters Laura and Alba Zapatero from the US state department's Flickr page. This, of course, was after Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero contacted Obama to explain the Spanish law banning the publication of pictures of Zapatero's daughters.
According to Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, this law is in place to protect the privacy of his under age daughters, Alba and Laura Zapatero, who are currently 13 and 16 years old. There are various sceptics online who feel this freedom bashing move of Zapatero's was nothing more than an attempt to hide pictures he feels are embarrassing to his office. I guess Goth is not considered very stately.

Hi I am Spanish. Just want to indicate that Spanish Media cannot distribute any picture of any under age person. It is forbidden by law, whether the subjects are the Prime Ministe's daughters or not.
ReplyDeleteHello and thank you for that input. Interesting, I can understand the whole privacy and protecting the innocent thing but what about sporting events where minors participate? Does this law mean local newspapers cannot print pictures of minor athletes or any minor who accomplishes something newsworthy?
